About BK's Woodshop
Thank you for shopping at my web site, and I do hope that there was something there to pique your curiosity. This is a one-man shop operated by Bill Kirk. I have been making custom built furniture since 1996 in a professional capacity. This is a hobby, turned professional, that started about 40 + years previously as I began remodeling my house. It began with Shaker type of furniture and slowly progressed to furniture types from modern to 17th and 18th and 19th century works and has been inspired by the Shaker, Queen Ann and Chippendale styles. Arts and crafts types also have a notch in this shop. You can submit a drawing, picture, sketch or an idea of the item of your desires to determine if I can make this piece. If this piece cannot be had thru a retail outlet I can submit two-dimensional drawings for your scrutiny. Upon approval I can also determine about what the item will cost. I do offer the client a one-of-a-kind type of furniture built on commission. All of my furniture is one of a kind and built to last a lifetime. Every piece that I make is made use of a time honored type of construction that includes various type of mortises & tenons, hand or machine cut through and half-blind dovetails that will last your lifetime and probably three or more generations. As a Cabinet Maker once said, “My furniture is unconditionally guaranteed for the first 100 years, after that there will be a small service charge.” That adage applies here also. All joints are mated in the traditional manner with mortise and tenon, and dovetail, a type of joint that has stood the service of time since the ancient Egyptians and brought to a superior art form in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. I will take your furniture concept, in furniture quality, to completion in the selection of matching wood beauty to the finish in a price that can be affordable. I can take pictures of the construction process and E-Mail them to you to make sure that what you had in mind for a furniture item, whether it be a door or a small jewelry box, a large Armoire or a inlayed table. Every item built in this shop is the unique product of your imagination. I invite you to tour my gallery and to see what I have done for my past clients. If I have piqued your curiosity, I urge you to contact me so that I may be of service. My shop is located in eastern Pennsylvania, the town of Bath. If you are in the area, please do drop in for a visit; however, it would be prudent to call first to make sure that I am here. I do look forward to working with you in order to produce that specially constructed piece of furniture in solid wood.
